I know what you mean about the website name on the photos, shame really but my photos get thrown around all manner of forums and facebook etc. So it's a way of letting people know where they come from, most of the time the text is left on the photos people put on other sites and that way my site gets visits from people who want to see more of my photos/ride reports. without this text they'd not know.
