St. Francis de Assisi Church

St. Francis de Assisi Church

Shutter 1/125, f8.7, ISO 64. I took this picture around six o'clock in the evening in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico with my Olympus D-560 Zoom. I adjusted the contrast.

The geometry of the structure combines with the shadows to make a bold monolithic image. The stones in the foreground add a little mystery. The cropping is too tight for me because I find myself wanting to see more, a wider angle perhaps or more of the terrific sky maybe even more of the hills or mountains in the hinted at background. A lower camera angle may have added to the boldness of the grand scheme. Strikes me as mediteranian and puts me in mind of something biblical. All in all, well done. Do you have more?

RL took the words right out of my mouth. I love the scultural/abstract feeling of this shot but I get the feeling there may have been more interesting opportunities at this location.

Like this one. A bold image with a strong vivid sky and an almost, touchy texture to the stone (cement) - I don't get to see too many scenes like this where I come from Smile

Maybe shouldn't have cropped so tight to the top of the frame, imho.

The thumbnail looks grand, in the way of the Pyramids or an old Egyptian temple. It even reminds me of the step pyramids. But, for some reason, it loses something in the larger format. Maybe it is too overwhelming that close up. I agree with the others: I would like to see more, but maybe from a slightly greater distance. Smile

Great shot. Looks a bit jagged just at the top of the wall.
