Nice desert scene, but the horizon's not level, and the eye is drawn to the dark objects in the lower right portion, and then you wonder what they are, sort of distracting you from the rest of the landscape.
Non-level horizon doesn't bum me out; in a way, it adds to the sand dunes personality. I, too, noticed the mystery dark things as a distraction. Are they camels? People? A cheap vacation house? I'm adding a point to Jools' vote, though, for putting someone in the shot to give it a subject; sometimes people don't remember to do that. Depth is good; we always need that in a [2-dimensional] photograph.
What bothers me most is the lack of pattern or depth in the sand on the large expanse on the left. You can see a hint of it, but it hasn't been brought out and looks too flat. The unlevel horizon bothers me.
The horizon bothers me too, and so do the little dark things on the right. Might also have been better if the figure on the left was stood up looking towards to dark things.
I like this, and am not terribly distracted by the objects in the background. Something about the composition seems unbalanced to me, but it's a nice shot overall.

Its nice but the horizon for me really detracts, also the subject in the picture upper left...he just seems planted to add to the picture...like hes not really adding any content to the picture, just a token person. Maybe if he had his back to the camera looking over the dune...it might make the viewer intrigued as to what lurks behind? Personal opinion tho, nice shot.
Nothing wrong with the horizon - 'straighten' it and the guy will be off kilter. Think it needs sharpening though, and the colours are great. And the dark things add mystery ... shades of Lawrence of Arabia. This picture tells a story.http://janpudney.net/ http://jaypea.redbubble.com/
