Great shot. Nice soft background and the black t shirt and hat really puts the focus of the shot on Loz. The skin tone being the only real colour has a good effect on the look of the picture also.

17 or 77 is not the issue. You are a good photographer and I'm sure you would make some valuable comments. You have a good eye and I would say a natural talent as a photographer. Something even experience does not always give.
