hello, I guess this prague, you need to know that this guys are gypsies, what they call roma now. the fact is that they are simple crooks who try to pull money. they even sell you their women and daugthers, piss from the balcony of their apartment and usually throw the junk out by the window, its human junk.
It has just too many focal points. The first two times (viewing it) I thought the guy in the white coat was the beggar because he's so dominant. White coat is strong, beggar is strong, architecture is strong, girl looking-on is strong, and so are the innocent by-subjects. I can cope with the intense tonality, but not with so much going on. [I'm no expert; just an opinion.] Are sub-plots of interest or distracting? Other viewers? What do you think? Interesting overall, isn't it?
Gary, you've got a point. Must have been a glare that day that washed some things out and darkened others. I did what you did. Thought the guy in the white coat was the beggar, then said no, and thought the seaman looking guy on the right was the beggar. Wrong again. So while I'm trying to find the subject of the picture, I'm looking at this black area in front of the "seaman", and then I see him. I have more trouble with the intense tonality. So much information is lost and I have trouble with the "sky". Rating is for interest.
I repeat what was said earlier - the white coat guy got my attention first and left me slightly confused for a moment. After examining the shot longer, I think it could be seen as a powerful symbol of how mankind walks by and doesn't see the beggar at his feet. I like the dark foreground and whiter background, and the noise.

Thanks for all your comments and I think nynavey's last comment has really got what I was trying to put across in the shot. I accept and agree with most of the technical points but in my defense it was a quick grab in -12 degrees celcius on 1600asa. In any case it is godd that the shot generated a little debate which is what photgraphy is all about in my opinion.
PS I did go back to Prague a couple of weeks ago to try and shoot more/better pics but the beggar was nowhere to be seen. Did not get offered any wives or daughters either though:-)
