Dunstanburgh Castle near Embleton Bay, Northumberland seems to be a classic of British landscape photography. I got out there once, but the early morning mist was rolling in, so I got this.
I like it, especially the TAO like simmetry of the composition. For my taste though the stones are are bit too prominent and they distract you from the castle, which I presume should be the focal point.
nice. It feels like the background should be the main subject, but just doesn't seem sharp enough, especially the grassy hill on the right, very raggedy - almost looks like it has been modified. As it is the foreground stones hold your attention to much. just my opinion.

I agree that the boulders are too dark, but I love the light on them. I was trying to use them as foreground interest and keep the castle at ~ top/right third juction point.
- there a quite a wind blowing at the time and the grass was 3 foot long, so I guess its motion blur
- mono i think looses the colour of the early sun on the boulders, the reason for getting up early in the first place and doesn't help its bottom heaviness - but does add a bit to the atmosphere of the shot.
Would it work to add more sky, I think have a sky heavy shot from the same sequence. It would mean changing from 12x5 to 12x8, would I be loosing something else if I did?
