This was shot in London right next to the Tower of London and the Thames River. There was no one in the area below so I was lucky to see this shot just in time to catch a typically English looking businessman who makes the picture. This picture exemplifies one of my rules of thumb about good photos. A good photo always includes life. I prefer human life but an image without a flower, an animal or a person is usually missing something. That being said, as is usual in art and white water kayaking, once you know the rules, you can break them and sometimes do something spectacular
I think it's obvious that the texture of the subjects combined with the juxtaposition of cobblestone and the roof of the "modern" (read 60's or 70's era I'd guess) cafe makes for a fun image. Note also the use of an uncentered image, and the rule of thirds (vertically instead of horizontally here).
Cobblestone, roof, empty tables, and lone person...lighting, exposure,comp, texture,timing are all right on! I know there are too many 10 scores going on, but I can't resist on this shot. IMO this is excellent!
Thanks you guys. I cut and pasted the text from my website fMarkstheStop.com that is brand new and mostly friends and family are looking at. Once I saw the text in this context it sounded arrogant. It was meant for my site, to teach others how I think and how I think they can take better pictures. Glad niether of you appeared to take it personally.
