Why do I think of Kate Bush when I see this image? A truly great b&w imo, perfect shades, contrast works well, not a lot to fault on this one at all, if anything.

Agree with all above.As regards your printing problems Bridget I have a 4 year old printer which gives me disappointing b&w results .I suspect the newer generatiom of printers are bettter,is this true generally speaking anybody?.'There is no point pressing the shutter unless you are making some caustic comment on the incongruities of life. B/w printing should be no problem if you set the printer up right, (even with older printers Jogi). Make sure the printer is set to print Greyscale, not colour. Another very important point is use the right paper. I have a Canon Pixma, and tried using some Kodak paper that I got very cheap, and the results were terrible. I downloaded some free Kodak software and this improved the quality quite a bit, but still not great. I then invested in some good quality Canon paper and, using the Canon printing software, the results are brilliant. Modern software allows a lot of tinkering with printer settings so it pays to play around with them too (but default settings tend to be pretty good). Hope some of this helps. Feel like I am preaching to the converted.
Donmac's pretty much covered it I think and like him I use a canon pixma. Personally I find I get better results for black and white (richer tones) by leaving the settings to print in colour. I also need to increase the magenta colour if printing a sepia or a similiar toned image otherwise i get a slight green cast. Looking at your image Bridget I'd expect you wouldn't have very much trouble getting a good result from most printers.
