Yes so would i say it was a good effort,and the background i would say is supposed to be blurred(although blurred is the wrong word) the dof is good.Well done Julie

i like it too, i prefer to have the background blurred on a photo like this do the main attention is on the subject.
Also something i noticed that i quite like is when i look at the far petal on the LHS it looks like an eye, this combined with the petal looks like a frog!

Bokeh (DoF) is a good way of showing off your subject.
It is a well captured Oedemera nobilis female, have you seen the male one?
