Good points. I couldn't slow down the shutter any more without completely blurring out the bat though. The photo was taken during a live game so I was restricted to the far side of a fence. The aperature was as small as I could get it from the distance. Also, I was standing on a 5g bucket to get above the 6' fence. I'd have rather been level with the batter and closer which would have allowed a more narrow field of view.
