Thank you pacificphoto and tophee for the very encouraging words. I do wish the seagull was further to the left but i just wasnt quick enough. The pic was taken in worcester its part of the main bridge over the river severn.
I have do it quickly as an exemple: http://www.clarechris.com/557911_mod.jpg [url]. I think you can do better by starting from the original file and spending a bit more time/attention.
I have select an elipse around the bird, copied it to an other immage, them selted the bird itself with the magic wand, and copied it back to the original image.
Then I copied an elipse of sky and paste is over the original bird, smooth the edges with the dodge tool so this it is not too obvious.
There is certainly better ways of doing it, using the cloning tool for example, but I am far from being an expert! So any coment welcone from those who are more knoledgeable.
I have used the gimp ( [url] www.gimp.org ) which have the avabtage of being free and almost as good as photoshop, so you can modify your picture without spending as much as a nice camera or feeling like a criminal.
