This ship is named the Solitaire. The photo was taken in the Gulf of Mexico on a very calm day... the water was almost like a mirror. The ship lays pipe out of that hole in the stern. It was laying pipe in 2000m of water. Thats about as interesting as it gets.
I like how the starkness of the ship contrasts with the pastel-like quality of the sky and sea. It speaks of the power of man and the powers that hold him in check. It portrays man's lame attempt to tame implacable nature. Having read the thread on the forum (re:marking) I'm unsure what to do. Like many others, I feel that I'm not qualified to judge the technicality of a shot because I'm only just venturing into the world of photography. However, that said, I know what I like to see. I really like this. It speaks to me. Damn it, I'm going to give it a 10!Nigel.
