Crowland Abbey

The partially ruined abbey in Crowland. It is still in use as a church, but the local children often smash the windows and try to set fire to it, etc.

The effects you have used lend themselves well to this image Stewart, that eerie feel suits this shot!

Those evil little vandals! This is a neat, creepy place, and your shot brings that out well. Two things would help magnify that creepiness. One, cut out a little of the sky. Two, string up one of those evil kids somewhere in the shot. --Chris

Thanks Chris! I wouldn't want to kill the little blighters, but I would like them to know how much it upsets people. I also think that their parents should pay the many thousands of pounds it costs to replace each window they break. Of course, they would have to sell their houses and move away from the area. -Tragic.

An impressive looking abbey. You need to jump that wall and take a shot from amongst those gravestones for extra spookiness. Unless of course you're a scaredy-cat. Wink
I'd like to see a b/w version of this and maybe a bit more contrast.

I like just about everything about this photo. I like the wall and the angle looking over the grave stones toward the building. The colors are perfect, just what I would expect an old abbey to look like after years and years. However, I agree with pacphoto about the sky. I think you could crop it half way for more of an impact. Otherwise it's still fantastic. Smile Amanda

Thanks donmac! I'm not scared of the dead, it's the living that worry me! I will try several other versions of this over the coming weeks. Smile

Nice one stewart. I am surprised at the suggestions to crop that fantastic sky. For me its essential to the image. The only thing I'm not keen on is this "pastel effect" stage you are going through (sorry). I'd like to see this natural or b/w as I previously said.

That's ok. I do like it, but I don't want it to become the only style I publish. It's really just become second nature to process all my pics like this. I will try and teach myself a new style next week! Smile
