Hi RVB, yep, it is a simple snapshot. I just came across this site and was playing with uploading photos to my gallery and was going to send an e-card to relatives. I naturally love the subject matter as it is my son! I am just a beginner with photography, love to take shots of scenery and my son. Any good books you know for beginners?
The New Manual of Photography - John Hedgecoe (ISBN 0-7513-3737-4)
It's been updated to cover new digital technologies as well as all the old basics which apply whatever the format. It's a Dorling Kindersley book so you should be able to find details at www.dk.com
Once you get going you may want to take a look at The Tao of Photography - this goes beyond pure technical technique into increasing awareness of the environment around you and how to reduce mental barriers to taking better pictures (a bit like an athelete does more than just physical training, they also require mental training to get into the correct frame of mind).
You should decide what kind of subject matter you're most interested in photographing and then just go out and do it. Don't forget to read your camera manual before you go! Can't tell from this one what kind you have, but it doesn't always matter that much if you're just starting out. Learn first, invest later, if that suits you. Don't forget that there are lots of photography magazines that have excellent articles and websites too.
