Some kids had set fire to the grass along the river bank that is near to us so I couldn't miss the oppitunity to go capture some firemen
;-) anyway I also entered this photo into the local village photo comp with the theme being "work" and surprising to me I won first prize (£100) as there was alot better pics then this one so would really appreciate anyones thoughts whether good or bad
You have framed the photo very well, nice effect from the smoke and clouds. But the firemen have their backs to us, so it reduces the interest. I think it would have been much better if you had caught them on the way back towards you. The "local interest" can be very important of course.
People have a feeling of gratitude toward firemen. In the US, it's almost worship. About this particular image, there's nice bright color and contrast. Since 'firemen' is iconic, I don't think it's necessary to have their faces for people to feel the emotion. I do, however, think the image becomes stronger with a little of the foreground cropped.--Chris
