Thanks for all your comments and ratings .Brian, this is situated at Plymouth Hoe and is a faithful copy of the Eddistone lighthouse. This lighthouse was designed by John Smeaton and took three years to build on the Eddystone rock in the English Channel it was started in 1756 and finished in 1759. This was the fourth lighthose built on the Eddystone rocks.This lighthouse lasted for 127 years, until fissures started to open up on the rock upon which it was built. The people of Plymouth raised the money for the lighthouse to be dismantled and re-built on Plymouth Hoe. It is known today as Smeatons Tower. The Lighthouse which stands on the Edddystone Rocks today was the replacement for Smeaton's lighthouse and is still working today.
