The black & white values here are pretty good...perhaps on the dark side. There's another monochrome portrait artist who posts great shots on this site...Christopher Azzropardi (sp?). I advise studying his work, because some of your stuff is very close in style and feeling. You will notice he surrounds his portraits with a little of the subject's life and work, giving us a more complete story. Your image here doesn't tell me anything about the man, so it's more or less a very well developed image of a happy man, but it could be more. --Chris
Ok, for that portrait of a man, you told me about Christopher Azzopardi. Well actually Mr. Azzopardi is my art teacher and the one who taught me all about photography, he shows me his works daily, and I appreciate that his works are liked.
Nicholas, upon re-consideration, I think I may have short-shrifted you a little. If I just use my imagination a little, I can readily come up with several back stories about this gentleman. He could be the club (restaurant?) owner, or a favorite customer, or a dignitary in town. I guess I don't have to have absolutely everything spoon fed to me, do I? I hope we'll continue to see more of your work.--Chris
