John, there is actually very little image manipulation on this picture, I have ajusted the level and play sightly on the shadows/higlights, but realy not much.
I think that the secret of those colors is, like often, in timing. It looked almost like night, but with a long exposure, the sky turn out to be of a deep blue.

Canon EOS 350D with kit lens 18-55, 30s, f22, that is a +1 on the exposure, 27mm focale length. 100iso, auto white balance.
