the padaung are a a tribe in myanmar/burma south of the famose inle lake. thez wweare brass rings around their necks, arms and legs, some say this is to remind them of their ancestry to the nagas (a mythical dragon / snake).

Just to straighten things, there are no long neck KAREN, the people we talk about are long neck PADAUNG who immigrated some years ago from Myanmar to Thailand because of the border war on the Myanmar side, some Thai people gave them shelter and use them in a zoo like environment to attract tourists to visit them and make money with this unfortunate people, thats the whole story.
Some month ago the Thai government imposed new immigration laws and wanted to push them back into Myanmar which led to a uproar in the whole Thai province since many tourists come to have a look because of them and many Thai people make quite some money with them.
