Hover fly holding station. I feel really, really pleased I have got this!!! These guys hold perfect station but they have inbuilt proximity radar and as soon as the macro lens gets inside a certain radius they sideslip away.
Fantastic, you have it so well I think it is much better than mine:)Whats in the bag:) Nikon D200 + Nikon 80-400 VR + Nikon 50mm 1.8 + Nikon 85mm 1.8 + Sigma 10-20 + Sigma 18-200 + Sigma 105 macro + manual bellows and an SB800 Nikon flash all well used as I can't put them down
Thank you very much Snugs and Charlotte. Charlotte yours was a dream - I don't know how you get the beautiful DOF which tails off at just the right moment. Anyhow these macros get us out in the fresh air and keep us out of trouble!! Viv
LOL luv your description, but more than that, it feels like we are flying beside him... he looks so happy and amicable... what an incredible photo"The poetry of photography will always be more important than the mechanics of the camera..." - J-H. Lartigue
Thank you Jimmy and Vladimir for your lovely comments. These particular hover flies are just under a centimetre long - quite small. But when they land their wings cover their body so you cannot properly see the lovely gold and black markings. This has taken quite a few wasted shots and several days on my knees to get this one.
