It might help to know what you found it on Ken. It looks like it is from the Order: Hemiptera and could be a Elasmostethus tristriatus (Juniper Shield Bug) or maybe the Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale
(Hawthorn Shield Bug). http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ray.hamblett1/nature/bugs.html I'm not from England and can't see all of the insect but this is my best guess.
