This was from a series of photos with 4 different models taken for a Toni & Guy photo shoot I got asked to do a couple of weeks ago. I've softened the skin slightly in photoshop and slightly brightened the eyes. This was the first portrait shoot I'd ever done, although I had assistance from my dad who has done many before. All comments, thoughts and critiques appreciated.
I'd say overall it's a fair effort on your part. The lighting's flatteringly diffuse, nice and even, and you've done justice to those skin tones in PS but the eyes are screaming out for catch lights and need to be brightened slightly more. A wee tad of fill flash would have done the trick here. Also a slightly more relaxed expression on your model (she appears quite stern) would help improve the overall image.
As a first try at a serious portrait shot however you've plenty to feel proud of ( far better than anything I produced at first) well done!
Thank you very much for the comment. I agree about brightening the eyes further. I think I was a bit worried about over doing it, so aired on the side of caution. Will have a little bit of a tweak in PS and see what I can do. I get what you mean about the expression, but I felt the stern expression kinda went with the moody dark make-up etc. Gives her a kinda 'I'm going to eat you for breakfast' look. :-) I'm gradually going through and PS'ing the good ones so keep an eye out for more. All comments welcome.
