Zia the Indian Tiger at Sandown Zoo. One of the stars of Tiger Island currently showing on National Geographic Wild, 7pm weekdays. Sandown Zoo has the largest collection of Tigers in the whole of Europe.
I am definitely not a big fan of animals caged up in Zoo's, but they definitely do a great job of looking after their animals at Sandown Zoo. They only take in rescued and unwanted Tigers now, and the new enclosures are very good. The Tigers seem to like their surroundings, and enjoy the enrichment programme at the Zoo.
There are probably more Tigers in private hands than there are in the wild. Also some Zoo's in the USA sell their unwanted animals to the canned hunting trade.
So I definitely support Sandown Zoo and the work they do.
