This 'angelic' statue watches over the mountaineers as they trudge towards the summit of Veleta (mainland Spain's 2nd highest mountain). The summit, seen through the arch, looks a short walk away, but actually takes at least a couple of hours to reach from this point; such is the misleading vastness of its scale.
