The Longstone - celebrations with the local Morris 'The Men of Wight' and Wight Druids. I finally get out with my camera and it's a 4am start to photograph Morris Men dancing at the Longstone (Thought to be an ancient Druid Sacred Site where many pagan rituals were performed)
Beltane, or May Day, celebrates the beginning of Summer on ancient calendars, and marks the halfway point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. Spring has sprung, and Summer is on its way.
I hope no virgins were sacrificed in the production of this image!!!! It is nice to see the rituals recorded....john We're off to see the Lizard~~the wonderful (sic) Lizard of Oz~~
Thanks for the comment John. One of the Stones has fallen over and looks just like an Alter. Some people believe the Celtics sacrifices White Bulls here... But also a meeting place during the Dark Ages and that the Saxons used it to announce judgement.

~In His Love~ Maggi D For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16
Thanks Viv and Maggi....they all went onto a local pub for a cooked breakfast...but I had to leave them to it.

Two things...
Firstly, its quite difficult to photograph Morris Dancers as they are constantly on the move in different directions and front ones will hide the back ones so this is a good effort
Secondly, the caption to the photo is wrong. THese dancers are NOT Beltane. I am unable to identify them but I do know that Beltane are a blackface side of Border Morris Dancers from Devon whereas the dancers in the photo are Cotswold Morris Dancers who are not "blacked-up".
