This is a wild snake and is the only venomous snake in the UK, she was a young snake, approx 10" in length and about as thick as your thumb.

Cheers, if you are wondering where the light has come from, it is from a reflector bouncing the light back up under her, she seemed to like this and did not hiss at me once.
This tells me that she was relaxed and did not see me as a threat, even with my macro lens right in her face.

Thanks Daenna, Robert & vjbm. I have been bitten twice in the past, not a nice experience, but as you know by getting closer you acieve better quality images.
Got to remember that this is the dangerous one and not to keep putting my hands and feet in front of them.
I Have been bitten on both legs, just above the ankle. A bite from this snake can be fatal to young children, old people and people with heart problems. Thankfully, i am and have none of the above.

Excellent work Rob, and very brave too, I really don't think I would have got that close, especially to put a reflector under her, extra kudos to you for doing that, and especially bringing it to the blog, thank you......
