Glad you weren't closer...talk about toes curling! I feel an impact with both these lightning shots, and think that if nothing else can be done with them, at least there is an emotional touch that comes across.
If this picture were in my control and on my computer, I think I'd experiment thusly: first I'd make a selection of the lightning. Then I'd reverse the selection so everything but lightning would be worked on. I'd feather it pretty heavily, by 50 to 100 pixels. Once this heavily feathered selection is made, then, I'd go to filters>noise>median, and experiment with various settings. Theoretically, this should allow you to reduce the noise while not lessening the brightness of the lightning.
Just some thoughts. Remember, if you can't do anything else, you've at least captured drama here. A thought: an animal silhouette up close and big might make it look like a scene of the animal gazing in wonder at the natural spectical. Bunnies come to mind...
I'm no wiz in the old PS, but will make a few hundred copies and have a go, lol. Its strange you should mention animal silhouettes, I said to my mate who was standing next to me, "wouldn't it be ace it a tawny owl flew past as the lightning hit". Never happens though.
