At Hornsea Mere, the old man called out to the bird and it came towards him paddling furiously calling back to him. As it reached the bank he bent and the bird allowed him to stroke its neck. He turned to me and said we're old friends.
A lovely and touching shot Linda.....I'm glad I'm not the only old codger that talks to the birds and animals....lol......and whenever a bird gives me a picture, I always thank it before moving on.....karma is important....Alan

If I were on the panel of judges for the contest, I would have pushed for this one to be in the final five. I'm the kind of viewer who is keen on 'that which is other than the norm,' which this is. Since some people post pictures to the blog hoping for thoughts about possible improvement, I offer the thought that perhaps it would be less distracting to clone out the ducks in the background.
I couldn't agree more. At times, it seems so completely arbitrary what wins and what doesn't. Periodically there emerges some consistency in repeat winners while other works never enter the playing field. I do not enter the competitions usually because you are all such wonderfully skilled photographers and I have only had the bug 12 months. I just wanted to share this with you all because it was a very special moment and I wish you could have been there to experience it. I have just seen this one. Now I know why he was in such a honking hurry. This is unusual - a bird that recognises someone and wants stroked - very lovely. There must have been quite a special bond between them. VivViv
