This is, according to legend, the site where Uther Pendragon, father of King Arthur, died. The Castle was built in 1173 and this view would be largely unchanged.

I'm greatly enamoured of the Arthurian myth. Have you read Marion Bradley's books? Also, Bernard Cornwell wrote a very fine trilogy.
