Thank you both for your very kind comments, Jimmy, where am I going wrong with this macro work, the bug itself isn't perfect clarity, although must admit he was quite tiny... What settings would you use on the D300?

Beautiful irridescent colours. I focus on the bit of the bug closest to me - just the flower itself looks sharp and you seem to have most of the antenna in focus which I find the hardest. Viv

Cheers Viv, I can see what I am doing wrong now thank you, I've tried to get the whole bug sharp, I will definitely give that a go tomorrow, buying a tripod, so hopefully will help....

Nice colour Gazz!...I always shoot cenrte focussing, spot metering and in AVmode, which is aperture priority!...then you just turn the wheel to increase or decrease the F stops!....you will get there in the end!.....Are you using a Sigma 105 macro?......its funny Bridget cant seem to get away with macro either with her Nikon................stick at it my friend...............Ken

ps If you are getting a tripod, get one with a pan handle!.........oh so much easier!..........
