Another one of me again I'm afraid, so please don't score the photo. This is me in the terrible black and white jacket 'Saving the Whales" at Farewell Spit, South Island, New Zealand.
There were over 60 stranded Pilot Whales and we managed to help save 43. This was 1993 and 3 English surfers helping save whales was National news and we made all the major news papers and television in New Zealand.
Lol Paul!! Well since you were trying something very worthwhile I will forgive you the fashion faux pas...Lol!! You did well saving so many - so often this seems not to work - they re-strand. (I am sure New Zealand was wonderful.). This captures the fantastic atmosphere of everyone with a common purpose. Viv

Why do whales get stranded? Is it a natural occurance, or are there any man-made factors involved?
By the way, clever of you to wear that jacket to get noticed.
There are so many theories to why Whales (Pollution, Sonar testing, Sick Whales and family bonds) strand but they do not really know. There were 4 stranding of Pilot Whales in 6 months.
