Polished to a mirror-like finish, this stainless steel artwork resides in Chicago. At 97 tons, it will probably stay there. In the evening, hundreds of people view it every day. At dawn, the terrace is almost empty. The few photographers there at dawn know to keep out of the way of other photographers at the time. Everyone at dawn takes turns shooting it people-less. It's a magical place, a gorgeous sculpture, and it's easy to park in Chicago at 6 am.
A wonderful capture. Very clean & crisp. Makes me want to fly to Chicago and view this beautyCatIt's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see ~ Henry David Thoreau
Wow - it is stunning and very interesting to read about it - I have this vision of a line of photographers queued up behind the nearest building - each moving to the bean in turn!! Viv
Cloud Gate is British artist Anish Kapoor's first public outdoor work installed in the United States. The 110-ton elliptical sculpture is forged of a seamless series of highly polished stainless steel plates, which reflect the city's famous skyline and the clouds above. A 12-foot-high arch provides a "gate" to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture, inviting visitors to touch its mirror-like surface and see their image reflected back from a variety of perspectives. Inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture is among the largest of its kind in the world, measuring 66-feet long by 33-feet high. A popular tourist attraction in Chicago's Millenium Park. Affectionately know as 'The Bean'.
Be Cool, don't freeze...
