Portrait of a Psychedelic Surfer

My mate 'pacey' in his element

You can see him and others in action on my www.soul-surfing.co.uk/ website

Thought i'd put a fuller explanatory note for this one as i posted it on flcikr this morning and it seems to have been about the most immediately popular shot i've posted in a while, and a few people asked about the clouds.

It wasn't planned at all, and it wasn't photoshopped. I went to the beach intending to surf with pacey but the waves were a bit messy and the sky looked so interesting i found myself lost in photography and trying to setup the perfect land/sea-scapes as well as trying to grab a few action shots of him surfing as although the waves were crap the light was great.

I got totally engrossed in that and was still shooting when he finished surfing and it just struck me how i could pop him in the middle of the frame with my 10mm and combine the elements of the crazy sky and whooshing sea. I'm pretty sure it was influenced by the recent works of my flickr friend 'aaronbennett27' who has been doing some amazing stuff with his friend and beautiful model Nicky

Kind of halo effect of clouds is indeed a happy accident - casting the guy in the role of "The Surfer Saint" Smile Excellent shot
