Zeiss Touit Challenge in Bangkok

In the Touit Challenge, two professional photographers competed against two photographers from the Zeiss community in Bangkok, Thailand, Both teams took pictures with the new Touit lenses for a period of ten days. Each day the Zeiss online community decided which assignment the two teams had to complete. Photographers Laura Saffiotti, Mac Kwan, Muga Miyahara and David Maupilé let the audience participate in their activities every day during the Challenge. The best photos are now on display at the website below.

OmegaBrandess Launches Fireworks Photo Contest

Those wishing to take part need to first "like" the company's Facebook fan page before they can post and share their images. You can also enter on Instagram: @Omegabrandess using #FireworksOBD. The photo with the most likes wins $150, second prize wins $100.00 and third prize wins $50.00. The prize money can be used on any of the products the company carries on its website.

Reflecta Light Panels

Kenro has announced the UK & Ireland launch of a new range of Light Panels by Reflecta, which provide film photographers with an easy and convenient way to view multiple slides. Photographers can choose from four different models; the L130 with a viewing area of 127x 100mm, the L230 version which has 178 x 127mm of viewing space, the L300 version having a 200 x 150mm light area and the largest model, the L600 with 300x 200mm of viewing space. The L130 and the L230 models are ultra-portable and can be operated by six AAA batteries or an external power adapter. The L300 and L600, which are more suited to a working environment due their ability to display a larger amount of slides, are powered by an external power adapter alone. All models possess a lamp-life of approximately 10,000 hours and have a colour temperature of 5000°K. Light Panels from Reflecta are available now with a suggested retail price ranging from £63.36 to £117.18.

Kenro Launches New Benro Combo Tripods

Kenro, the official UK and Ireland distributor for the Benro range of tripods and bags, has introduced the Combination series of tripods. The new Combination range is so named due to the choice of two platforms for the tripods – either the simple flat platform or the geared centre column. The flat platform allows the tripod to work without any centre column, thus offering great stability and the choice of an extremely low working height. Two models are now available from Kenro, the Benro Combo C3770T and C4770T, both feature legs with three sections. The C3770T weighs in at 1.75kg and can support a load of up to 18kg. The C4770T weighs 2.36kg and can carry a maximum of 25kg. Also new to the Benro range are two geared centre columns, the AGC3 and AGC4 models, both designed to enhance the experience of using the Combo tripod. The C3770T is available now with an SRP of £431.40 along with the C4770T model which carries an SRP of £515.40. The AGC3 geared centre column is available now with an SRP of £266.40 as well as the AGC4 model which has an SRP of £294.00.

Canon EOS 70D

The Canon EOS 70D is a new digital SLR camera with a 20-megapixel sensor and 'Dual-Pixel CMOS AF.' The latter is a phase-detection autofocus technology on the camera's image sensor plane, which provides for quiet and fast focusing in Live View as well as when shooting video. When using the optical viewfinder, photographers can take advantage of the 70D's 19-point all cross-type AF system (including a high-precision f/2.8 dual cross-type AF centre point) and high-speed continuous shooting of up to 7fps. In addition, the Canon EOS 70D features a built-in wireless transmitter that offers users several connectivity options to easily share their images as well as control aperture, shutter speed, and ISO from their smartphone. The EOS 70D Digital SLR camera is scheduled to be available in September 2013 for an estimated retail price of $1199.00/ £1079.99 / €1399.99 for the body alone and $1349.00 / £1199.99 / €1599.99 kitted with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM stabdard zoom or $1549.00 / £1399.99 / €1849.99 bundled with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.

Pentax Ricoh Imaging today announced that it is changing its company name to Ricoh Imaging, effective from 1st August. The company has also unveiled its future product brand strategy: both Pentax and Ricoh products will remain in the market with Pentax becoming the brand for all DSLR, interchangeable lens cameras and binoculars, and Ricoh becoming its brand for compact cameras and "new technological innovations."

Switronix has unveiled its latest all-in-one power distributor, called the FlyPack. A scaled-down version of the JetPack, the FlyPack features an all-aluminium chassis, with three 1/4-20 threads on the back for easy mounting. Available in two different models (the 5v/7.2v/12v Base model and the 5v/12v/12v FP-212 variant), the FlyPack includes a powertap cable, accepting a power input from 12-17vdc, as well as one USB output, one 5v Lemo output, one 7.2v regulated outputs, and one 12v regulated. Reflecta LED Macro Ring Light

Kenro has announced the UK launch of a new, cost-effective LED macro ring light by Reflecta. The light's 49 LED's (equivalent to 3.4 Watt) and colour temperatures of 6.500K to 5.900K allow for a shadow-free and consistent illumination on the subject. For further creative opportunities, Reflecta has added a 60 degree tilting feature which allows the photographer to get up close and personal to their subject without compromising on light control. Richard Heeps: Man’s Ruin

Lomography UK’s July exhibition, opening this Thursday, will feature work from analogue photographer, Richard Heeps. In his Man’s Ruin collection, Heeps explores retro Americana imagery in vibrant, immediate photos. Working largely with rare, end-of-line films, Heeps travelled the US, capturing this collection on his Mamiya RB67 and Nikon FM2 cameras. On show until 26th July, the exhibition will be hosted by Lomography's East London gallery located at 117 Commercial Street, London, E1 6BG. Open daily from 11am-7pm.

Canon EOS M Firmware Version 2.0.2

Canon has issued a firmware update for the Canon EOS M compact system camera. Version 2.0.2 incorporates the following fixes and improvements.

  1. Improves focusing speed in One-Shot AF mode.
  2. Now supports EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM.
  3. Corrects errors in the Simplified Chinese, Hungarian, Traditional Chinese and Korean language menus.

*When placing the EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM without conducting the firmware update, although rare, at times the EOS M will not function.

Lytro Mobile for iOS

Lytro has introduced a new iOS app that allows people to use their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device to experience and share light field pictures taken with Lytro cameras. The app communicates with Lytro cameras, whose wireless capabilities can be activated with a free software update, letting camera owners preview and upload pictures to Lytro.com directly from their iOS device while on the go, using either a cellular or Wi-Fi network. The Lytro Mobile App is available as a free download from iTunes.

Linea 3.3 for iOS

Mobile photo browsing app Linea has been updated to version 3.3 to include direct access to Dropbox. "Photo enthusiasts who need a way to back up their photos, but can never see or find their photos in Dropbox’s non visual folders, can use Linea to organise and view thousands of pictures, pulling images straight from Dropbox to Linea’s mobile app," the company says. "We realise photo enthusasts are pained with storage and organisation woes on a daily basis. Uploading photos from Dropbox means your photos remain backed up while they are organised automatically in a visually compelling line to be shared with friends and family.” Linea is available as a free download from the App Store.
