Research and Markets have announced the addition of the "Photography Equipment Market in the US 2017-2021" report to their offering. The analysts forecast the photography equipment market in the US to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.53% from 2017-2021. Canon Opens Professional Technology & Support Centre in Burbank

Canon today officially opened its doors to its newest Professional Technology & Support Centre in Burbank, California. Adobe achieved record quarterly revenue of $1.77 billion in its second quarter of fiscal year 2017. “Adobe continues to execute well, with another quarter of record revenue and operating profit in Q2," said Mark Garrett, executive vice president and CFO, Adobe. “We're excited about the strong business momentum we have as we enter the second half of fiscal 2017 and remain confident in our ability to drive strong revenue and earnings growth in the future.”

Canon Europe has acquired Kite.ly, a London-based mobile e-commerce platform specialising in personalised print. Aurelius Equity Opportunities have acquired Wex Photographic from Barclays. Following the deal, Wex will be merged with Calumet Photographic, a multi-channel photographic retailer acquired by Aurelius in June 2016. Servicing half a million customers across the UK, Wex is the country’s largest online specialist photographic retailer, with an annual turnover of €84 million. Magnum Photos Announce 70th Anniversary Programme

This year, Magnum Photos will celebrate 70 years of contribution to photography with the launch of a global public events, exhibition and new content programme. Centred on the three themes of community, witnessing history and Magnum Photos Now, the special anniversary programme will explore the institution and photographer personalities of then and now, central to past and current visual culture. Throughout the year, the website will feature defining images and visual stories from the past seven decades of Magnum including founding member Robert Capa’s iconic documentation of the D.Day landings in Omaha Beach, 1944, Henri Cartier-Bresson’s 1947 record of the independence of India and Stuart Franklin’s first-hand account of the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989. Magnum photographers will also take on an ambitious new visual project, Magnum Retold, to mark the occasion. This will see Magnum’s contemporary photographers reshoot some of the agency’s most seminal stories, reworked to reflect the changing world we live in today.

Hasselblad CEO Perry Oosting to Step Down

Hasselblad today announced that Perry Oosting, CEO, will step down from his role by the end of this month. "Having guided Hasselblad to stability, strong sales as well as the partnership with aerial camera company DJI, CEO Perry Oosting has accomplished what he was asked to achieve and has decided to step down from his operational responsibilities and return to a role as advisor to the board," the company said in a statement. The Board of Directors has appointed Paul Bram, an advisor to the supervisory board, as Interim CEO.

Adobe showcased next-generation Creative Cloud innovation, including a new breed of applications in experience design, photography and 3D compositing, as well as new developments brewing in the company’s research labs, at Adobe MAX 2016. A new Mac release of Adobe Experience Design CC (XD), the first all-in-one tool for designing, prototyping and sharing user experiences for website and mobile apps, is now available with two highly anticipated features - Layers and Symbols support. First made popular in Adobe’s flagship design tools Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC, XD reimagines Layers and Symbols to address the specific needs of user experience designers. The next release of Adobe Premiere Pro CC includes auto-aware virtual reality that seamlessly detects and applies the correct setting to stereoscopic and monoscopic media. First introduced at IBC, updates to Premiere Pro, After Effects CC and Prelude CC will also include a Beta of Team Projects that allows teams and enterprise customers to co-edit and collaborate on Creative Cloud projects. Adobe is also releasing a new Cinema 4D renderer in After Effects that will speed up efficiency and quality of 3D content generation. Additionally, Adobe announced a partnership with Reuters, the world’s largest international multimedia news provider, to bring Reuters video and photography to Adobe Stock’s new editorial collection. Profoto and Sony today announced their collaboration to expand markets for professional photographers and serious amateurs. This cooperation promises enhanced compatibility across Profoto flashes and light-shaping tools and Sony's interchangeable-lens cameras. “Profoto is very pleased to enter into this partnership with Sony, a front runner of groundbreaking digital imaging. This collaboration between two industry leaders in photography and light shaping provides a unique platform that will enable future innovations for the world’s best and most ambitious photographers. Leica have created a new Professional Business Unit, which has been designed to expand and combine integrated product solutions and innovative applications for professional photography and video production. From 1 September, Stephan Schulz (pictured) assumed the function of "Global Director Business Unit Professional" and is now responsible for the activities of this new unit, which combines marketing and sales activities in the business-to-business sector. This includes the Leica S medium-format system, the mirrorless Leica SL-System and the entire product portfolio of Sinar, a leading manufacturer of view cameras. In addition to this, the newly created business unit will also strengthen the strategic collaboration with Leica affiliate, CW Sonderoptic, which manufactures cine lenses for film and TV production that are marketed under the Leica brand name.

Western Digital Technologies have completed the acquisition of SanDisk. “Today is a significant day in the history of Western Digital,” said Steve Milligan, CEO. “We are delighted to welcome SanDisk into the Western Digital family. This transformational combination creates a media-agnostic leader in storage technology with a robust portfolio of products and solutions that will address a wide range of applications in almost all of the world’s computing and mobile devices.” Under the terms of the transaction, each outstanding share of SanDisk common stock was converted into the right to receive $67.50 per share in cash and 0.2387 shares of Western Digital common stock. Steve Milligan will continue to serve as chief executive officer of Western Digital. Ricoh and Spinnable have entered into a strategic alliance. Spinnable, an immersive technology company for 360 social sharing, and the Ricoh Theta S (pictured) make it easy for anyone to create and share content in full 360 degrees, capturing what is going on all around them, not just what is in front of them. Spinnable users can use the Ricoh Theta S to capture and then directly upload images to the Spinnable app, which is currently available for iOS, and will soon be available for Android devices. Once in the app, the media can be moved with the swipe of a finger, or by panning, using the phone's gyroscope. The Ricoh Theta S camera can also be purchased through the app.

Phase One has acquired the assets of Mamiya Digital Imaging (MDI) and has appointed Makoto Honda as the new president of Phase One Japan.  As a 45 percent shareholder in MDI since 2009, Phase One has developed detailed insight into the camera and lens design and production process and engineered important improvements through its close collaboration with the MDI team in Japan. With this transaction, Phase One now also takes total ownership for all aspects of design and development of medium-format camera systems, central shutters and lenses.

Triggertrap Presents “Lapse World”

This October, Triggertrap called on photographers from around the world to create time-lapse movies featuring the cities they love. The photographers captured over 65,000 frames between them, amounting to almost an hour of video footage. These clips were assembled to form LapseWorld - a three-minute film highlighting the hustle and bustle, atmosphere, diversity, and pace of the five featured cities - London, New York, San Francisco, Milan and Cape Town. Each city is also featured in its own separate timelapse movie, highlighting what makes that city unique within its country and continent.
