Acronis Press Release

ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE HOME 2009 MAKES PROTECTING HOME PCs AND LAPTOPS EASIER THAN EVER

New user interface, one-step protection and powerful search tools ensure safety of digital files, photos and music

10 October 2008, UK - Acronis is launching the latest version of its True Image Home disk imaging and backup software for home users. Acronis True Image Home 2009 protects users’ PCs and allows them to recover quickly from the impact of threats such as viruses, unstable software downloads and failed hard drives.

Acronis True Image Home provides both full image and file-based backups. Image-based backups take a snapshot of an entire machine – including programs and the operating system – which can be restored in the event of a hard drive crash or full operating system failure. With file-based backups, users can select specific files and folders to protect.

“These days, almost everyone is aware of the need to backup their computers, but not everyone actually does it,” said Kevin Moreau, general manager UK and Ireland. “Our goal has always been to make backing up a computer system as easy and straightforward as possible and this new version of Acronis True Image Home helps to protect users from the inevitable hardware or software failure that can destroy a lifetime of digital files, photos, videos and documents.”

Backup made easy
Acronis True Image Home 2009 includes a number of features that make it easy to protect computers:

- One-Click Protection allows a user to quickly and easily set-up a backup routine and then start it with a single mouse click.

- Smart Scheduling:  Runs backups automatically at a preset time, for example when a user is idle, on user logout, or system startup/shutdown, and in coordination with other events.

- Set and Forget backups - Configure once to perform backups automatically.

- Auto backup based on destination availability -User can decide to back up automatically or as soon as a destination drive is available.

- Acronis Secure Zone - Protect your system by saving an image to a special hidden partition on your hard disk where it can be accessed when the system is being restored.

- Acronis Startup Recovery Manager - Boot your computer after a failure to start the recovery process simply by selecting the F11 key, even if your operating system has failed.

- New taskplanner and new backup administration functionality - Provides a very clear calendar format, where you can see at a glance which tasks have been scheduled on which day. On one page, you can view all the backups that have been executed manually or by a planned task. With a right mouse click, backups and images can be updated incrementally or differentially allowing the administration to be done completely through this interface.

Enhanced features for complete flexibility and security
Additional features that go beyond backup and recovery make Acronis True Image Home 2009 a powerful software program that can protect the security of personal data, while making it easy to organise and locate files.

Acronis Try & Decide - Allows users to put the PC into a test mode in which installations and changes to systems settings can be tested without fear. The changes are buffered and not applied to the hard drive directly. Once complete, users can choose if they would like to apply the changes to their system or discard them. With Acronis True Image Home 2009 the Try & Decide mode now also persists during a re-boot of the machine.

The disk cloning feature makes upgrading computer systems painless. With it, there is no need to reinstall the operating system, applications, or re-key user settings when cloning a PC or increasing its storage capacity.

Full text search enables an end-user to search for file names and/or content within an archive, using Windows or Google desktop search. This makes it simple to find particular files, even if they are located within a backup archive.

The software also incorporates Acronis Drive Cleanser, a solution that wipes the personal or organisational data from a hard drive in the event it is replaced or an entire system is donated, recycled or discarded. The File Shredder function safely destroys individual files so they can’t be resurrected ensuring protection against ID theft
