  1. Kristi and Landon Darr's "seminar" is a complete scam. Please look for yourself and find there is no address listed for any of the seminars or working phone numbers.

  2. I do not know what you are talking about. Kristi and Landon Darr's seminar was not a scam and the best I have been to.

  3. It is a scam! That or the worst run business ever on the speaking circuit. Not only did they charge my credit card for $175 twice instead of once, they cancelled their Detroit date promising refunds that never came. Their phone calls are handled by an answering service, and their contact page on the shooting higher site does not work. Only when I threatened credit card dispute on the main photography contact link did someone email me back, only to be told they have no record of my payments. Come on now, are you kidding? They wanted to see my credit card statement, and told me they'd send me a check back in the mail. I've gone around and around with them for 3 weeks now, and there's basically no response and no check in the mail for me. I only found this page because I'm disputing through my credit card company at this minute, and decided to Google them and see if anyone else was scammed as well. Obviously I'm not the only one who got taken. (I think the guy above works for them. wink Don't be fooled.

  4. This is a scam, many people have signed up to go, paid their money, only to not get the information of where and when the seminar is. Then when you try and get the money back they promise they will but, they never do.

This Mark person works for Landon Darr. Beware. Do not throw away your money.

  5. Landon and Kristi pulled one over on me and my fiance. We booked them the shoot our wedding in St Lucia. They were a recommended photographer on a St Lucia travel site. Needless to say they are no longer recommended.

We put down an initial deposit with then and were to pay the remaining balance a 6 months later. Well, they took the liberty of charging my CC before the remaining balance was due without my permission. After talking with him, he claimed it was because travel cost were rising and he have to book travel sooner than expected. After emailing and talking with him and his "assistance" over the phone for over a month, he agreed to give a full refund.

Well to go along with the theme of this forum posting, no refund. We immediately changed our CC card number and disputed the charges. We were not able to get the deposit back but the CC company did refund us the unauthorized charges they made.

These guys are bold faced liars. Here are more sites where they have setup shop:

    http://oneloveworkshop.com

    http://groups.myspace.com/shootinghigher

    http://www.modernexposurephoto.com/

    http://www.darrphotography.com/

I seriously thought about flying to North Carolina to file a small claims court case. After seeing the above postings, if we all joined together we could file a class action case and put these guys away.

If anyone else in on board with a class action suit, please post back.

  6. What the ####!!! Calumet sure does pick good ones, the Santa Fe workshop is also a scam. They took my money and never sent any info, they will not refund me either. Calumet photography needs to pick better

  8. I have to add some info on these 2 scam artists. I work for a catalog/web company. We had a customer call asking what we sell, as she had a charge on her card that she didn't make. After some searching we located the order that was made. We asked her if she knew the name on the order (first name was "Mark" last name was hers but spelled wrong), and she replied "no". Then we asked if she recognized the contact phone number. She replied it was her parents number. Then it came to her...she had signed up for a photography seminar with these 2, and she had received a phone call from someone named "Mark" and he was needing an emergency contact number in case the seminar dates changed so she was going to visit her parents and gave him their number. She gave us the name of the seminar she signed up for, which is how this was researched. This order was done on 12/10 and once he apparently received the goods he called back a week later and placed another order. Both orders came to over $1000.00. The victim didn't call us until 12/23, which was well after the orders had been shipped out. She is calling her card company, meanwhile my company is out over $1000.00 worth of merchandise. They listed the address they were shipping to as a "Embassy Convention" which sounds like a hotel. After some lengthy research we found the address of the Darr couple and coincidentally the ship to address was their next door neighbors that convieniently have an unlisted and unpublished number, so no way to get in touch with them and no way to prove that the Darr's accepted the shipments.
Please, please warn everyone about these people. I can't mention the name of my company because they don't know I am doing this but I hate seeing people get ripped off by a couple of scam artists. They may have started out as a legitimate business but probably found they can make more by scamming and have gotten that good at it. Please check your credit card statements to make sure you haven't been taken either.

  9. This is getting deep now, you guys are blowing this out of the water. I doubt they would do anything like that... smile

  10. These "seminar leaders" have been discussed at length on the Digital Wedding Forum. Be warned, lots of unhappy photographers.

Mark Budwortrh at 07:26pm on Friday, January 02, 2009

  11. None of this is true, have any of you actually attended one of their seminars....

Janice Worther at 03:37am on Monday, January 05, 2009

  12. Isn't that the problem? It sounds like its impossible for most of us to attend their seminars! That's why we are online looking for information on whether they are a scam or not! (Aside from the random comment #7 up there.) My experience above is completely true. I did finally talk to Landon's assistant Mark, and he told me filing a dispute with my credit card company is the proper route to go in order to get refunded. He said their sponsor is the one who was holding people's money, and that's part of the problem going on. I did just that, and received my money back on my card last week. I don't think they are a scam, I just think they may not have handled this situation very well after their sponsor dropped the ball. They are supposed to be speaking extensively at WPPI next month.

Monica Byrne at 02:29pm on Monday, January 05, 2009

  13. Well it's funny that the victim got back to us again to let us know she filed a complaint with the Winston-Salem police dept. Because she received her money back from the credit card company she could not be considered a victim. Our company is but we have no proof to be able to file a complaint. But she said the police are aware of these scamers and hers is not the 1st complaint. His name is actually Jacob Landon Darr and he has a record, according to our contact. Hope you all get your money refunded but there are alot who haven't and it's very easy just to blame the sponser...after all it's the sponsers that are dropping them??
