Canon 40D Imminent?
It looks like the much rumoured and long-awaited Canon 40D DSLR camera, successor to the popular EOS 30D model (pictured), may finally be arriving. None other than the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) has spilled the beans by listing the Canon 40D on it’s PictBridge-certified product page, which was last updated yesterday. Normally we don’t comment on internet rumours, and with good reason in the case of the 40D, as it has been the subject of a lot of hot air since 2006. In this case, though, it seems that the 40D may finally be real - Canon are after all a member of the CIPA orgranisation. There’s obviously no specs or pictures - you will just have to entertain yourselves with a Google search until the Canon 40D is officially launched… (CIPA link found via DCViews)
Update 19th July: Somewhat unsurprisingly, CIPA have now removed the Canon 40D from their list of PictBridge-certified cameras…

If it was on the CIPA website then it would not be fake. Now if this was from some forum or what not, then I'd be inclined to agree. Trade associations usually lack the imagination to make up things like this.

It is a fake actually...you can tell because the font is different. Someone likely did a screen grab, found a font that was close (but not quite) the same, and typed in the "40D" in a new layer, flattened it in PS, and posted it somewhere saying "Look! I found the 40D on the CIPA website!"

Jason, I took the screengrab direct from the CIPA website, and I can assure you that I didn't fake anything in any way.

Warehouse Express have updated their website this morning with the 40D. £899 for the body, which seems quite a good entry price (bound to get knocked down after launch). It's going to have to be special to tempt me away from the Nikon D200 though, which has been reduced in price quite a lot recently.

You've heard comments going around about how closely the 40D matches the 5D. Well, an owner has posted up a series of ISO tests featuring both cameras, with full-sized image samples available for download. Details at http://canon40d.dpnotes.com/noise-test-canon-40d-vs-canon-5d/
