Canon UK Press Release

Canon launches new premium PIXMA All-in-One

United Kingdom / Republic of Ireland, 20 August, 2007: Canon strengthens its range of All-in-One printers with a new premium model, the PIXMA MP970. Replacing the PIXMA MP810, it features the highest print and scan quality in the range, offering a total photo lab solution for advanced digital and analogue photographers.

“The new PIXMA MP970 is Canon’s most advanced and powerful All-in-One,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “It successfully combines all the features serious analogue and digital photographers demand: supreme print quality, advanced functionality and total reliability.”

Pricing and availability
The PIXMA MP970 will be available from October 2007 priced at £249.00 / €369.00 RRP inc. VAT.

The PIXMA MP970 features:
- Superior photo quality with FINE print head producing 1pl ink droplets to maximum 9600 x2400dpi print resolution
- 7 Single Ink system – the largest ink set in Canon’s current A4 PIXMA range
- Advanced copy technology ensuring faithful reproduction
- High quality scanning at 4800dpi with high-brightness white LED virtually eliminating warm-up time
- 8.9cm (3.5”) TFT LCD screen with Easy-Scroll Wheel
- Direct printing from digital camera, memory card, mobile phone, 35mm film and slides
- Advanced media handling: Auto Duplex, 2-way paper feeding, DVD/CD direct printing
- Wired LAN (Ethernet) connectivity
- Auto Image Fix for optimal photo correction

Photo Lab Quality Prints
Canon’s FINE print head technology is able to dispense droplets as small as 1pl, for a maximum resolution of 9600x2400dpi. The MP970 uses seven separate ink tanks, providing a broader colour gamut for exceptionally accurate colour reproduction in photos. Combining precision with speed, the MP970 is capable of producing 10x15cm borderless photo prints in approximately 35 seconds. Canon’s ChromaLife100 system ensures print longevity of up to 100 years when stored in an album.

Improved copying technology
A key feature of the MP970 is Canon’s Dual Colour Gamut Processing Technology, which has been improved for even more faithful reproduction of colours – whether in photocopied documents or reprints of old photos. The system uses two separate forms of colour rendering to reproduce tones that meet accurately with human perception – ensuring both enhanced colour reproduction and superior text legibility in first and second generation copies.

This technology is complemented by copying speeds of up to 30 copies per minute (cpm) for mono pages and 22cpm for colour pages.

In addition, Canon’s Quick Start technology has dramatically reduced the time taken for the MP970 to initialise. Approximately 5 seconds after the power key is pressed, the initial display appears on the screen. From this point on, users can begin to enter copy data.

Auto Image Fix
Canon’s new Auto Image Fix function automatically removes common flaws from images. Using sophisticated Face Detection and Scene Analysis technology, it identifies and optimises key areas in a photo: colour fogging and exposure, face tone and brightness, and scene-based tone, contrast and saturation.
Auto Image Fix comes fully integrated into the MP970 for use when direct printing from memory cards. Users can also access the function via MP Navigator EX software or Canon’s creative package, Easy-PhotoPrint EX.

Versatile, powerful scanning
The MP970 features a powerful 4800dpi CCD integrated scanner. White LED lighting virtually eliminates warm-up time, while the lens is the same ultra-high specification Super Toric (ST) model used in Canon’s leading single function scanners. The MP970 is also film scan ready, allowing analogue photographers to easily create prints from 35mm film (negatives and positives) or mounted slides.

Easy PC-free printing
Used in conjunction with the Easy-Scroll Wheel and an improved user interface, the MP970’s integrated 8.9cm(3.5”) TFT LCD screen provides users with access to all features – making standalone use easy.
The MP970 supports direct printing from any PictBridge compatible digital camera. A memory card slot accepts virtually all popular card formats, while pictures from mobile devices can be easily transferred via cable, the integrated IrDA interface or optional Bluetooth.

Advanced media handling
The MP970 offers users a comprehensive range of media handling features. An included CD/DVD tray allows high-quality printing directly onto discs. Auto Duplex printing makes double-sided printing and copying straightforward, while the addition of a second paper tray eliminates the need to switch between photo and document paper when printing jobs.

  1. you might get beautiful prints from your MP970 but all I get is orange prints with no blue tones. I have tried everything. Suspect it is the drivers (MAC OSX 10.5.2) but I have downloaded the latest of those too with no joy. "immensely frustrated"
