Carl Zeiss PhotoScope 85 T* FLThe PhotoScope 85 T* FL from Carl Zeiss is a combined telescope and digital camera that offers a focal length of 600 to 1800mm. Small objects as close as five meters to faraway objects can be captured digitally by the integrated 7 megapixel digital camera. To take a picture, open the 7.5 cm OLED screen on the side of the device, on which the live image can be seen and camera parameter settings can be entered. An IR remote control which can also be used to make all camera settings enables vibration-free release. The launch of the PhotoScope 85 T* FL is scheduled for spring/summer 2009.

Carl Zeiss Press Release

World premiere for observation and outdoor photography

Coinciding with the 2008 photokina, Carl Zeiss is once again demonstrating its innovativeness in the field of digital imaging with sports optics products and is presenting a completely new product concept with the PhotoScope™ 85 T* FL.

The PhotoScope™ enables the simultaneous observation and capture of faraway or small objects and processes, thus opening up entirely new user experiences.

The complete integration of premium observation optics and a high-power digital camera with a super tele lens in one unit led to the creation of a new class of instruments offering a magnification range of 15-45x for observation and outdoor photography. The unique and unparalleled gigantic visual field (subjective viewing angle of von 68°, 80 m/1000m at 15x or 27 m/1000m at 45x) was made possible by a fully new lens concept.

In combination with lens elements containing fluoride in an 85 mm lens, which guarantee minimal color fringes and thus a highly brilliant image, user enjoy a very bright, razor-sharp and absolutely natural image. The integrated 7 megapixel digital camera enables the simultaneous digital capture of the scenery. Because the camera works without sliding mirrors or similar elements, it is possible to observe and take pictures at the same time with disruptions or vibrations. This permits an ultra-short reaction time that allows picture-taking at precisely the right moment.

For all photographers who want a fully outdoor-capable solution with a long focal length, the PhotoScope™ offers a focal length of 600 to 1800 mm (35 mm format). This means that small objects as close as five meters to faraway objects can be captured digitally in high-resolution quality. The PhotoScope™ is compact and thus useable anywhere.

Special attention was given to an ergonomic design and ease of use. Magnification and focus settings are made using large wheels on the lens. To take a picture, open the 7.5 cm OLED screen on the side of the device, on which the live image can be seen and camera parameter settings can be entered. An IR remote control which can also be used to make all camera settings enables vibration-free release.

However, manually entering a color temperature for a specific white balance, ISO values above 50 ASA, spot measurement, bracketing function, sequential shots and exposure control using a histogram are only a few of the additional features implemented into this new concept that also offer advanced camera users maximum freedom and creativity. A standard SD chip is used for storage.

The market launch of the PhotoScope™ 85 T* FL is scheduled for spring/summer 2009.
