Delkin Device SD-Xtra Memory Card Launched

Delkin SD-Xtra cardDelkin SD-Xtra card is announced, which allows you to transfer data from a SD card onto a computer via any USB port. Prices for the 128MB and 256MB SD-Xtra cards will be $39.99 and $59.99 and will be available in March.

Delkin Devices Inc. Press Release

DELKIN INTRODUCES SD-XTRA CARD THAT ALLOWS EFFORTLESS DATA TRANSFER BETWEEN PC’S AND PORTABLE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS

Poway CA, February 18, 2005 Delkin Devices Inc., maker of premium quality eFilm memory cards and other innovative digital photography products, today announced the SD-Xtra card which allows effortless transfers between any SD slot and any USB port.  The innovative design allows photos, music or data to transfer easily without the use of a reader/writer or cables.  Built into this SD card format is a USB 2.0 high-speed flash drive in capacities from 128MB to 1GB.  With the removable cover installed, the card plugs into any standard SD or MMC card slot in kiosks, cameras, PDA’s or Digital Music players.  When the cover is removed, the card becomes a USB thumb or flash drive.  This drive plugs into any standard PC or laptop USB port and is read like a disk drive.

Jim Goff, VP of Sales and Marketing at Delkin Devices, says, “New consumers enter the market every day and learn for the first time how to get their pictures from camera to computer, this can be a daunting task, and the SD-Xtra card makes it so simple.” Goff continues, “Any product that simplifies this process will be embraced by consumers and the trade and will be worth a few dollars more than standard cards at the cash register.”

When tested in various consumer cameras, PDA’s and computers, the SD-Xtra showed impressive access speeds.  Access speeds as a USB 2.0 drive are over 10MB/s and when used as a SD card, access speeds are over 7MB/s.  To the consumer the benefit of this added speed is quick and easy copying, reading and writing of pictures and data.  The design of the SD-Xtra contains both Flash and USB controllers, combining two separate and very popular consumer storage devices.

SD-Xtra cards from Delkin are available only at camera stores and on line at http://www.delkin.com.  Expected retail prices for the 128MB and 256MB cards will be $39.99 and $59.99 respectively and will begin shipping in March, 2005.  Higher capacity cards in 512MB and 1GB will ship around Q2 2005.

More than 54 million USB Flash Drives were sold worldwide last year, up from less than 2 million in 2001, according to the research firm Gartner Dataquest. Sales are expected to top 100 million in 2006.  Double-digit growth of this format demands attention, and the SD-Xtra card addresses this market demand.

Since 1986, Delkin Devices, Inc., based in Poway, California, has been providing a broad range of products with premium quality, innovative designs and an ongoing dedication to superior customer service.  Delkin Devices, and its products, have become worldwide industry leaders in both OEM and consumer markets. eFilm is a leading choice among professional photographers and others passionate about digital photography. eFilm is available worldwide through a network of independent camera stores and online at Delkin Devices’ website at http://www.delkin.com.
