Epson P-5000 Review

Epson P-5000The Epson P-5000 Multimedia Storage Viewer is a new portable storage device that allows you to view, store and manage digital photos, music and movies. The P-5000 has a 4 inch Photo Fine Ultra colour LCD, which features the world’s first 4-colour filter system. Both JPEG and RAW files can be stored on the 80GB hard drive, and there are built-in card slots for Compact Flash and SD / SDHC memory cards. Epson have revamped the overall design and user interface, resulting in a more rugged unit. So is the Epson P-5000 a worthy successor to the older P-4000, and is it still a good investment for the keen photographer? Read our review to find out.

  1. I think the built-in card slots for Compact Flash and SD / SDHC memory cards is a very interesting feature and would be useful for me as i am studying multimedia.

  2. The battery is 2600mAh, but it was 2300mAh on earlier models.

You mention the addition of USB2.0 High Speed Host (Standard-A, USB devices).

This means a card adaptor is not required !

The additon of the full-size USB means the unit can be used wiht card readers, very useful !

  3. The review does not mention about if P-5000 can now magnify RAW, not like P-2000 just reading the jpeg header?

  4. This is the most comprehensive review I have read of any of the models of the Epson photo viewers. This P-5000 model meets my present and forseeable needs. The only thing lacking for me is a memory stick slot. This definitely limits my selection of a new digital camera. Yes, I could use a card reader adapter, but that just means more equipment to carry. I want portability and to eliminate the need of transporting my laptop worldwide. Your assessment of value at 3.5 is accurate in my opinion and even though I want this device, I will wait until the price is at $500 or less. It is definitely the best of its type on the market as my focus is photos and showing them to relatives. Thanks for providing a very informative and helpful and I rate a 10 review.
