Epson Stylus Photo 950 Printer Review

Epson Stylus Photo 950 PrinterI’ve just posted my review of the Epson Stylus Photo 950 Printer, a 6 colour, 2880 x 1440 dpi model that currently sits at the top of Epson’s range of A4 photo printers. I was especially interested in testing the Stylus Photo 950 because I own an older Epson model, the Stylus Photo 890, and I wanted to find out what improvements Epson had made to their latest model. Would I be impressed enough to consider upgrading? Read on to find out.

  1. In one year - xxx times on repairing desk. No, I can not recommend this printer. Sorry.

  2. Did you ever get a replacement unit, or was it the same one that was repaired many times?

  3. Borderless printing dosn't seem to be possible with 15x10cm photo paper.

Have had problems with smudging, software supplied is terrible, have cropt images myself to the correct size yet it still insists on taking a further 1/2cm off the top.

Not impressed for photo printing for the codt of this unit ... have seen results as good from printers 1/3 of the cost.

As yet I cant get my unit to print to CD .... or infact the manual feed tray ..... Instruction manual supplied is too simple, looks like it has been designed for monkies .... if you want to use these advanced features you have to figure it out yourself. I have worked as a Technician and now as a Network Manager for five years and have worked with many printers it has taken me almost two hours to get this far. I hope i can sort it out soon.

  4. Chris, have you tried checking the No Margins box in the printer driver? This forces the printer to print borderless.

  5. Since I have used a 2000P and still use a 2200 on a daily basis now, and recently purchased a R800. The R800 is the best image quality of the bunch. With a preference for Epson Luster, the clear coat is wonderful. For the savings over a 2200, I also have better prints. Print size limit is something I'll gladly live with. I've printed a number of B&W;images for some friends, they're impressed with the neutral tone, in any light.
Might even print a few CD/DVD's as well.

  6. It appears that the Epson Stylus Photo 950 is generally very good. My work colleague has had excellent results from his, but I seem to have the 'swine amongst the pearls'. I have yet to obtain a satisfactory result from my 950, and that's not my being ultra fussy. The prints resulting from my 950 have been very poor to totally unacceptable when trying to print photographs from a top of the range Fuji digital camera. The only time the 950 has performed well was when printing non-photo items.

  7. Is it still under warranty Des? Do your photos print out well on your friend's 950? If so then it sounds like it's time to send it back for a replacement...

  8. I have had this printer for 18 months now and like Jay have never had an acceptable result from it for photographs(also Fuji high range camera). I have also met others with same problem and was recommended to use Ilford Galleria paper which provides best but still not great results. My printer has a tendencey towards print pink tone and therefore no true blues that is unresolved by myself despite endless efforts and communicatio with Epson. I have heard others with same problem. Before I ditch it anyone any comments or recommendations - I cannot recommend this printer on my own experiences.
