Harry Benson is Latest Kingston Icon of Photography

Kingston Technology Press Release

Legendary Photographer Harry Benson Offers Six Tips That Helped Shape His Amazing Career At Kingston’s Icons Of Photography Website - Web Site Designed to Inspire/ Educate Photographers at All Levels with Tips and Techniques from World-Class Pros

Fountain Valley, CA – April 15, 2006 – - Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, announced that legendary photojournalist Harry Benson will be the featured photographer on Kingston’s Icons of Photography Web site beginning today. Icons of Photography is quickly becoming one of the most popular online forums for photo enthusiasts and professional photographers to learn tips and techniques from some of the world’s most respected photographers. Each month Kingston spotlights a new “Icon of Photography” who provides interesting advice and anecdotes for taking better pictures and shares their unique approach to digital imaging, storage, and workflow. Digital photography has changed the way we take photos and process them and Kingston is helping to educate and inform photographers at all levels about the importance of memory, whether it’s for the computer, the camera or as a convenient means of transporting images through secure and high capacity USB Flash drives.

As this month’s Icons of Photography spotlight photographer, Harry Benson shares six (6) “rules of the game” he has learned over his career and continues to live by to this day. Whether he’s photographing world leaders, celebrities or “everyday people,” Harry Benson credits these ‘rules” with making him one of the most successful photographers of our time. Benson also discusses how his digital workflow is different from other photographers and the important role Kingston media cards play in that process.

“The move into digital came at a great time in my career. It has absolutely reenergized me,” said Harry Benson. “I’m excited to be shooting digital and thrilled by what it allows me to do as a photographer. Working with Kingston media gives me the confidence of knowing that my images are captured and are reproduced as I see them unfold before my eyes.”

“Kingston is honored to have Harry Benson as part of our Icons of Photography program,” says Wendy Lecot, Flash Memory Marketing Manager, Kingston. “His experience, knowledge of the business and willingness to share his thoughts and ideas with our customers is a real asset to Kingston and everyone who visits the Icons of Photography Web site.”

Benson’s first big break came with a job at the London Daily Express, where he was given the plum assignment of covering The Beatles in Paris and traveling with them on their first trip to America. After a two-year stint covering the U.S. for the paper, he quit to begin his career in the United States. Benson worked for Life from 1967 until it closed and is also credited with helping People magazine get on the U.S. media radar, shooting more than 100 of its early covers. He photographed every U.S. president from Eisenhower to George W. Bush and covered Nixon’s resignation, the Watts Riots, the fall of the Berlin Wall and much more.

Today he shoots for Vanity Fair and Architectural Digest, among others. Since his arrival in the U.S., he has won numerous awards, including the 2005 Lucie award for lifetime achievement in portrait photography, and was twice named ASMP Photographer of the Year. Benson has had nine books published, with two new books coming out this fall. A major retrospective of Benson’s work opens at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh on August 4, 2006.

Kingston will introduce a new photographer with their featured photographic tip, gallery of images, calendar of events and biography around the 15th of each month. Photographers and consumers can read the latest tips and view images by logging onto http://www.kingston.com/digitalmedia/iop.

Other Kingston Icons of Photography include: Barbara Bordnick, Colin Finlay, Douglas Kirkland, Gerd Ludwig, Peter Read Miller, and Chris Rainier.
