Nikon Coolpix P50 Review
With the PMA photography trade show just around the corner and aggressive Christmas competition driving down prices, it’s surprising what kind of camera you can buy for less than £150 / $300. Take the Nikon Coolpix P50 for example - 8 megapixels, 28-102mm wide-angle lens, vibration reduction, ISO 2000 and face detection is an impressive feature set for this price-point. We reviewed the Nikon P50’s more expensive brother, the P5100, a couple of months ago, and while it promised a lot on paper, it failed to really wow us. Can the Coolpix P50 avoid a similar fate? Gavin Stoker found out.

Nikon is still kind of weak in the point-and-shoot department. I'd really like them to catch up to Canon, since I prefer Nikons SLRs and would like to have all of my gear come from one manufacturer.

Maximum shutter speed is 8 seconds (not 4) in Manual mode. Fairly good for night shots.

Its a good deal but the camera does not have a movie editor, ... which can be a drawback sometimes when you are travelling and need to edit clips so to retain space on the memory card.

"economical wide angle"
Don't forget the Nikon P50...you are right James for the money, superior. I will look at P50 and TZ3 together to decide my needs.

Great to have manual control, a pretty good wide-angle lens with really decent IQ, (some sort of) VR, a capable sensor that can keep highlights and noise under reasonable control...Now all for under £130.
It probably sits between the Canon A570is and A720is in the comparison stakes - The Nikon scores if you want a 28mm wide - if you want a longer tele go for one of the Canons.
