Nikon D60 Review

Nikon D60The new Nikon D60 digital SLR camera is an incremental upgrade of the popular entry-level D40x model. The D60 retains the same 10 megapixel sensor, 3 point AF system, 3fps burst mode and external design. New features include an improved dust reduction system, a viewfinder Eye Sensor which automatically turns off the LCD screen, and additional in-camera post-processing options. We tested the D60 in kit form with the new 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens, which is perhaps the single most important reason to consider the D60. Read Mark Goldstein’s in-depth review to find out if the brand new Nikon D60 is the right budget DSLR camera for you.

  1. Thanks Mark for an excellent review of the Nikon D60. Very informative and to the point. Your review confirms what I suspected. I considered the D60 but I just couldn't stomach the lack of the screw drive for older lenses. There's just no excuse for that to me. Why throw away the ability to use some great older glass? Several good things about the D60 but I see nothing about it that I would take over my old D70s,much less the soon to arive D80. And as for the Claymation mode, just what were they drinking when they thought of THAT one???

  2. Dear Mark, What is the main difference then between the D80 and D60? If I am buying my first DSLR camera, which one should I get? They are both about the same price now.
    Thank you.

  3. If you can get them for the same price, I'd go for the D80, primarily because it works with the full range of Nikon lenses.

  4. Thanks for the review, Mark. It's quite a relief to know that I didn't jump the gun too early when I bought a D40x! Sounds like the D60 is a fine camera, but not significantly better than the one I have.

  5. Nice review. Having just bought a D60, found the review useful, and aligned with my own thoughts Currently it seems best value for money mid-range DSLR, and one that is easy to handle.

  6. Thanks Mark for your positive comments on the D60. This will be my first venture into the SLR Digital World and hope to get it right the first time. I will be using the camera for personal and family use. Nothing Professional. I have been looking at the D80 also but recognize that it is almost two years old and am fully aware of what happens in this technology these days soooo between the D60 and D80 for my world.Pricing is very close now. (plan on getting two lenses 18-55 and then something up to 200) what would be your choice ?
    Thanks for your thoughts,
    Bob
