Olympus E-420 Review

Olympus E-420The new Olympus E-420 takes over from its predecessor, the E-410, as the “World’s smallest DSLR camera”. Positioned as a digital SLR that compact camera owners will want to upgrade to, the E-420 now offers contrast detection autofocus in Live View mode, the same system as used on a point-and-shoot compact, with face detection also available. That’s not to say that the E420 is a basic DSLR for beginners - on the contrary, there’s a wealth of advanced features on offer, including wireless flash control for studio shooting, competitive continuous shooting speed of 3.5 fps, and an intriguing new 25mm f/2.8 pancake kit lens, which provides a standard focal length of 50mm in 35mm terms. Gavin Stoker liked what he saw when he reviewed the E-410 last year, so does the Olympus E420 hit the bullseye this time around? Read our in-depth review to find out…
