Olympus Mju Digital 800 Review

The Olympus Mju Digital 800 (also called the Olympus Stylus 800) is an 8 megapixel compact digital camera with a weatherproof body that is resistant to water spray. Standout features on the Olympus Mju 800 include a large 2.5 inch LCD screen (although there is no room for an optical viewfinder), manual control in the form of shutter priority and aperture priority modes, 19 different scene modes for the novice user, and a Super Macro mode that focuses as close as 3cm from your subject. Olympus have also incorporated some completely new ideas. BrightCapture Technology, which automatically brightens the LCD screen in dark conditions, Image Blur Reduction mode, which reduces blur created by a moving subject or camera movement, and an Album function which sorts and displays your photos. 1. I was interested in this camera for its in-camera red-eye fix; however,
   after seeing the results of your noise tests, I am no longer interested.
   
   What a shame Olympus did not limit this camera to 5 or 6 megapixels.
   They probably figured that the 8 megapixels would be a better selling
   point, and an average buyer would not have access to your noise test
   results. With the increasing popularity of this site and others, camera
   manufacturers might want to rethink such logic.
   
   Regarding your red-eye tests, since there is no red-eye to speak of in
   your test shots, it is not surprising that the red-eye fix did not detect it.
   It should not be difficult to create a test image with prominent red-eye
   since it was red-eye susceptibility that made this camera a candidate
   for the in-camera red-eye fix feature in the first place.
   
   Of course at this point, in view of the camera's poor noise performance,
   the issue is purely an academic one for me.
