PhotographyBLOG Review: Olympus Camedia C-5060 Zoom

Olympus Camedia C-5060 ZoomFirst announced in September last year, the 5 megapixel C-5060 Zoom is currently the second most advanced compact camera in the Olympus lineup, behind the 8 megapixel C-8080 Zoom. Probably it’s main attraction is the 27-110mm lens, which opens up wide-angle photography again in a marketplace dominated by cameras with lenses that start at 35mm. The C-5060 Zoom is heavily based on the older C-5050 Zoom, but Olympus have added a number of improvements, including that wide-angle lens, a swivelling LCD screen and faster start-up and shutter-lag times. With the Photokina 2004 show approaching and a shelf-life of one year, can the C-5060 Zoom still cut it in the fast-moving world of digital cameras? Read on to find out.

  1. I can`t believe, that none of the reviewers has heared of the numerous complaints of total electronic crash of the C 5060 after abaout half a year of use and repair times of one to two months bei olympus or is a critical remark in a website like photographyblog or dpreview not good for the business.
Besides I was very enthusiastic about my C5060 before the crash.
    Kind regards

  2. The nice thing about the 5060's handling, is that many settings are done by holding one button and turning the command dial -- something many Nikon SLR users (myself included) are familar with!

  3. There's nothing nice about the way the 5060 handles. Believe me, I have one and its UI is truly subpar. You can read more here:

  4. Yes, a rather "ugly" looking camera, but what a picture machine it is for the amateur who really want to do some more than just shooting away at the blondes on Costa del Sol. The 27mm wide angle lens is absolutely a must in thoose crowded situations. While other photographers was backing away across half of Rome to get the whole St. Peters Cathedral in their weiver, I just shoot the whole thing from the middle of St Peters Place including a 360 degree panorama of the place. Wow !
Cumbersome handling says who ? So what, dummies !

  5. What about DAMP? The electronics in the C5060 have failed on me three times since buying it. Olympus have repaired the camera twice, but every time a spot of rain falls on the camera the electronics stop working. Sometimes they recover and sometimes they stop working for good.
