Remap Fisheye Images with RectFish

RectFishRectFish aims to make fisheye image remapping simple, accurate, and efficient. RectFish is for users of fisheye lenses remapping in software to other projections, which produces images with an angle of view wider than that provided by rectilinear lenses. All the user has to do is to select a camera and lens, then RectFish will use appropriate parameters for both RectFish and rectilinear remapping. RectFish costs $30.

AcaPixus Press Release

FISHEYE IMAGE REMAPPING MADE SIMPLE

For users of fisheye lenses remapping in software to other projections is a common means of generating images with an angle of view wider than that provided by usual rectilinear lenses. However, mostly such software is complicated to use, use incorrect fisheye mapping curves, and only provides remapping modes that will remap much of the image information to outside of the resulting image rectangle.

The software RectFish aims to overcome all of these problems and make fisheye image remapping simple, accurate, and efficient.

A proprietary remapping mode has been developed to allow users to gain the most from their ‘circular’ fisheye lenses This mapping mode retains virtually the entire image but gets rid of dark corners. This remapping mode is called ‘RectFish’. Additionally RectFish provides for the usual rectilinear remapping function, which also allows for rotation of the camera on all axes.

To make remapping as simple as possible all the user has to do is to select a camera and lens, then RectFish will use appropriate parameters for both RectFish and rectilinear remapping.

AcaPixus is proud to release the latest revision of RectFish, which now incorporates accurate correction for deviation from equidistance projection during remapping to rectilinear. Since RectFish uses an exact mapping curve for each particular lens, it can produce rectilinearized images that are more rectilinear than if using a generic program such as Panorama Tools.

RectFish is developed for Windows, but runs perfectly under Wine on Linux or OS-X.
